#1 PL38 cheap version of EL38

Unread post by Paul Barker »

Just bagged two more PL38 new boxed military version £42 delivered. The xx 38 is a superb valve. I found I had two boxed Mullard NOS for the preamp driver project. So had a scan for backup bottles or bottles for PP. as their resistance is 1100 they would go in the QUad II project since the triode connected KT66 is 1200.

Though I plant to use PL36 as it is 625 ohm which makes sense.

That project is lower down the pecking order though. Expectation for Owston is this complete integrated amp as a 4.9 watt se amp. Beyond that a GM70 output stage and separate power supply. 35 to 40 watts 2% THD.

I may also bring the OB more efficient speakers which I brought on 6ft by 3 ft plasterboard baffles. I’ll shrink the baffle to Briggs dimensions. Purpose, to show 4.9 watts SE better matched to speaker efficiently. I’m going to be busy..
