I've had the parts for an AD1862 DAC hanging around for a while with the intention of building something with a valve I/V output stage but finding the time to progress that is unlikely in the near term so I ordered a PCB that includes an op-amp I/V stage and put it together as a nice easy Boxing Day project. The USB input is an old JLSounds I2SoverUSB board. Apart from initially forgetting to install one of the configuration resistors on the JLSounds, quickly remedied, it work straight. Apart from a slightly hard/tizzy top-end it is very listenable and will do nicely in the second room system. I'm waiting for some Silmic caps to replace the tantalum caps you can see in the picture and it'll be interesting to see if that helps with the top-end and/or if settles down a bit over time. Maybe trying some different op-amps will be interesting too.
