#1 Cambridge CXC laser assy.

Unread post by pre65 »

"The Cambridge CXC transport seems good value, but mine has developed a fault, and after it has warmed up it skips a bit. :("

I've decided to do something about this.

By reading up I found the CXC has a Sanyo laser assy. I've removed the one fitted and the pictures tie up with the suggested replacement. £12.28 all in.

Should be here wk 2 2023, I just hope I can remember how it all fits together.

As an aside, the toroid Cambridge use is a secondary 10v @ 2A so I will leave that alone for the time being.

Hello,

Where did you find the replacement ? I'm interested too, as I've had this problem for a while.

Well, this is the info I got, but best check to see if yours is the same.

"The drive itself is covered in Cambridge labelling, but it’s a common Sanyo SFP101N, 16-pin. "

All the Ebay ones seem to come from China, as is the one I ordered from Amazon. I'm told it is now in transit, or was it a sprinter ?

The replacement laser unit has just been delivered, not in transit, but Volvo estate.

I've unpacked the unit and it looks the same, but won't attempt any actual replacement work today, except for changing over the four rubber isolators.

Well, I put it all back together, but the display reads "no disc".

Ho-hum, further investigations required. :(

I don't know that head, but check there is no shorted blob of solder that's designed to be removed after installation.

Thanks Nick, I found the "blob", but being heavy handed with small side cutters I've fuc*ed up the small pcb.

Another order to China. :(

What the hell were you using the cutters for? Just use a iron, and if needed some solder wick, but just the iron, if its free of solder will normally take it away.

I have ordered another unit, probably another few weeks as China seems the only source of such items.

I've received another laser unit from China.

I won't have time today, but possibly tomorrow.

As a bonus, I've found some copper solder wick.
