scam question
#16 Re: scam question
Yep, I sometimes get sample cards in the post as part of an "apply for a card with us" marketing push. Sending an actual card complete with mag stripe and rfid circutry seems to be a bit of an expense for a scammer to do randomly. And I would also think it would generate a paper trail pointing back to the scammer.

Sample are not replacement . Replacement cards involve further info your scammer is not likely to possess .

Yes, I'm 100% sure it's a genuine account.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 12:23 pm That's a very sophisticated con as you have clearly heard the tale second hand are you sure it's not apraocfull ?
Have you ever considered using a spell checker ?

Yes, I agree, however its possible someone could mistake a sample for a replacement and then mistakenly try and activate it. Then report that the sample was a replacement sent by a scammer.Sample are not replacement . Replacement cards involve further info your scammer is not likely to possess .

The person in question took the card to their bank, and the bank told them it was fraudulent.Nick wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 3:30 pmYes, I agree, however its possible someone could mistake a sample for a replacement and then mistakenly try and activate it. I don't know then. Other than someone said a thing.

Just had a call (number unidentified) from an Indian lady purporting to be BT regarding a broadband problem I didn't know about. They sent me a code number on my mobile phone as authentication, but I smell a rat.
I told her I was not going to be scammed, to which she said "how can I scam you ?"
I then put the phone down.
So, I've either upset a BT lady genuinely trying to help me, or stopped a possibly elaborate and clever scam.

It seems the "code" number sent is genuine BT, but somehow triggered by the scammers, and when one tells the scammers what the code number is they can get access to ones account.
BEWARE.
EDIT. The scammers use the "forgotten password" feature on the BT account and the code number is used to verify the users identity (me) , but in this case the scammers.

BT don’t ring you to tell you you’ve got a fault. They don’t know until you tell them.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

They email you to tell you they are going to ring you. My line was the problem so I had to ring them from mobile. They came as Open reach and fixed the line. Hay presto internet fixed.
