Might have bagged a runner for reasonable cash as a second deck, anyone know what I should look out for?

Also, anyone got experience with which P-type carts to buy?

Worth it? Yes indeedy, less than round of drinks at Cranage, it's a bit splashy at the top end, but worth investing in a better cart, it's got that typical MM cart sound.

I'll bring it down to Colin's next time we have a bash.

The honest answer is...best, ask me in a few days, when the bargain euphoria has subsided, but for a post pub turntable when you're pished, this could certainly save you a few pounds on deheaded carts without disgracing itself.

Trying a bit of "Frankieee", it didn't auto recognise the 45, but hey, it seemed fitting and some of my FGTH is a bit worn so no loss with a 30 odd year on cart.

Hopefully a bash can be arranged sometime soon. Seems the outfit making Nick's Acrylic baffles are making progress with the build so when he takes delivery of those we'll arrange a meet and will have a couple new toys to play with. It'll be interesting how the SL-5 compares to my NA Spacedeck setup.

I reckon your NA set up is probably better, Colin, and the P-Type cart limits the deck, I don't think an MC is available.

As Steve pointed out, you can get a decent MM and I think it's probably good enough to warrant that.

It has that certain MM sound and direct drive character and
the the zero tracking distortion is really interesting, from what I've heard only a 12 inch arm comes close, and they aren't perfect in other respects, so great for playing more worn pressings that might grate with sibilance otherwise.

Not better, but different, and certainly worthy of rack space, especially when you've had a few little drinkies Who hasn't bust a cart when a bit pished?

As I said, ask me again for an opinion when the novelty has worn off a bit and I've got a decent cart on it.

There are technics mc carts available for these decks but they are very expensive and of unknown provenance these days so i probably wouldnt bother searching one out as they will all be knackered by now

I was looking at a couple of sl7s a few months back as a fully auto replacement for the jvc ql-y5f and did abit of research.

There is an audio technica derived cart that you can get a hyperelliptical stylus for that i forget the name of, ill see if i can find it

Remembered what it was, tonar h plugger is the hyperelliptical and tonar s plugger is a shibata stylus
