what are you doing ?
#811 Re: what are you doing ?
envious of Hull here....
meanwhile, on other matters..
this one is for Paul, cos I know how much he loves this pc related stuff...
I've just spent the best part of 2 days fighting with winxp. I had a need to run an app which needs a pci card(original pci card). Transpires that win10 ignores most legacy pci cards, this one especially, and the drivers I have for the card are XP only.
Manfully tried to load XP into the machine, finally got it loaded but I couldn't shoehorn the drivers in and the windows explorer wouldn't look at half the websites I wanted to look at for drivers....
Getting the very unique driver in required disabling part of the chipset in the bios and then stopping windows from auto loading a driver for the card so that I could install the proprietary driver. After many attempts I managed to uninstall the windows derived driver so that I could install the special driver without windows reporting we already have a later driver.
And then I had to activate winxp. Not easy when it won't do it via the internet. So it invloved a telephone conversation to exchange 2 sets of 7 x 6 figure numbers with a girl somewhere offshore with a very strong accent...oh waily
I send my thanks to her because the product is 20 years old and well out of support. I'm sure she didn't have to generate an activation code for me, but for 2 pins I'd marry her.

Just did an inventory of all the hifi gear in the house, and what i can remember that is lent out.
The amount of stuff that is there is just rediculous, and the amount of it that is redundant is daft.
Might have to get ebay fired up and get shut of some of it.
As an example, there are 16 cartridges.......
Might as well have a clearout

Did this a while ago as SWMBO insisted that three 19" rack amps was enough...Ant wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 3:55 pm Just did an inventory of all the hifi gear in the house, and what i can remember that is lent out.

Took a big load to AudioJumble (DtB was there too [*]) - it's amazing what folk pay for stuff. I have a pile of Quad kit that went for several times what I was expecting, and a load of monster capacitors likewise.
[*] Soooooo many possibilities with that statement. "Did he get any offers?", "How much did we get for him?" etc. etc.

104 more jars making for 178 total from this extraction. 340g in each jar. Pure apple blossom. Beautiful flavour, colour and viscosity...
Checked all the hives yesterday and there's more to come...

I'm resting my back today. I visited the osteopath on Friday for treatment, and it helped, but gardening is a no-no. So I'm revisiting one of my freight train cab ride videos (on the new TV) from Bedford to Earls sidings (Hope valley line).
For lunch I had a fry up. Two sliced potatoes and a sausage in the air fryer. A diced red onion and a few diced mushrooms sautéed in olive oil. Three rashers of bacon done in the microwave. Two sliced tomatoes fried and a fried egg. I'd run out of black pudding and I passed on the toast.
That should last me all day.

Watching one of a series of recordings of the Sky Arts Big Hay Weekend with Frank Skinner talking to Michael Morpurgo, Melvyn Bragg, PJ Harvey, Yolanda Brown and Yvette Fielding about their latest books.
Great if you like that sort of thing.

Spent a couple of hours fixing catches for two lids to under floor storage compartments in the boot of Lisa’s Lexus- dismantled and repaired with a spring for each catch from a set of pens bought from the Co op. Good job Lexus used a similar sized spring.

Not sure about your dinner though!
I'm sipping a(nother) glass of Malbec - well known cure!

Being abit bored.
Redid all the hifi setup this morning to get the nva amp and pre in in place of the pass amps, then started sorting out a rega r200 that needed sorting in order to be put on the big lenco to be sold.
Got a replacement din socket for it, soldered up, thought id done.
Went to test it with the meter and there are shorts all over the wiring. So its going to have to have a rewire done.
Balls.
Now sat here like a lemon.
Got music on, but i cant seem to focus on it now like i was this morning when i installed the nva amp, mind is wandering for some reason

what you need is a good fence to erect.....
some lovely old concrete footings to dig out
some new post holes to dig...very deep
then you can go and hire a nail gun(if you don't already have one) .....and have loads of fun nailing rails and pales
focuses the mind a treat
then you can sit and listen to music, totally knackered.

I find going for a walk helps, preferably somewhere quiet, and listen to nature.

Did that first thing this morning and saw a barn owl sitting on a fence post.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.
