Still looks crap, but underneath there's reconditioned everything and new disks, brake pipes, Bilstein shocks, mounts, polybushes, springs, track rods and lots lots more.
Gearbox went back to Ashcrofts under warranty as synchro on 3rd was stuffed (baulk rings of 3rd & 4th not engaging/cones slipping & 3rd gear shredded). New mounts for gearbox & transfer box, new cambelt & timing check, refit & rehang exhaust, new water pump, recon steering box, new UJs...
...and yet more...
Should drive a bunch better when it comes back...

I’m more impressed than your dog is Nick! All those shinny new parts, shame they’ll be covered in mud on the first off road outing.

Mostly reconditioned rather than new, except for the brakes & pipework etc.
The gearbox & transfer box were both reconditioned by Ashcroft and feel great.
Ride is completely different - new bushes, shocks, springs, axles, steering box, UJs etc. have made it sooo much nicer to drive.
New mounts on gear and transfer box plus exhaust have quietened it down a lot.
Topside still looks like crap though....
Ps. Mate's dog, not ours...
PPS. Made a keyfob out of the old chassis's VIN number... (Galvanized chassis now).

Next below-decks mechanicals will be rear & front LSDs
Might have to wait until next year for that one - quite pricey...

Steering damper gave out (it was ancient and crappy), so replaced with a nice Bilstein B6 "off road" one...
Only really noticed the issue if driving at a fairly constant 40mph on a lumpy road and turning gently right!

Problem also solved by turning left at 39mph on a smooth road?

Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

New rims and boots. BFG 235/85R16 with Wolf rims.
All running gear now renewed/refurbished. That's it for this year.
Next year: Bodywork
