Beat me to it. I have an 8GB one on pre-order with the new 5A PSU. That's a chunky monkey..

Got the fan & case ordered as well - fully functional Unix beast for £109 delivered.

TBH, I'm not entirely sure why I've ordered it as I already have an unused 8GB 4a waiting for deployment.

I sold all my early Pis - the 1s, 2s and the 3s (excepting the 3B+s) on eBay and they each went for between 15 and 30 quid (free WiPi included!) so all remaining are now Zeros, Picos, Nanos, 3B+, 4A and soon to be 5s. Logic is that I want them all to be on board WiFi and Bluetooth, i e. No dongles if at all possible.

One truly annoying thing about the Pi 5 is the power requirements... the PSU is a NON-STANDARD USB C PD supply:

"This high-efficiency (>91%) 27W power supply offers standard PD modes including 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/2.25A and 15V/1.8A, alongside a custom mode for the Raspberry Pi 5, offering 5V/5A."

That last bit is a pain - It's a standard USB C PD supply... until it isn't...

I have preordered as well. Toms Hardware review indicates you can use the Rpi4 psu but the power will be limited on the USB ports

Yep. However I think that they missed a trick on that one. If a normal PD PSU could be used, the options for powering them neatly would be far greater, especially with the newer generation of GaN bricks which have multiple USB-C PD outputs

Don't know if this has been covered or not, but just came back from holiday and the heating is not working
I have been running our storage heaters from a Raspberry Pi for a few years now, and suddenly it is losing its network (wifi) connection overnight
Found this and giving it a go. Will update if it works or not

I've seen eee (energy efficient ethernet) cause these problems in the past if an apt upgrade changes a default parameter - thing about EEE is that both the switch/router and the host has to handle it correctly - turning it off if not needed is generally a good plan...

No, just DHCP
Fixed the IP address rather than using the router to always give it the same one. No idea why it drops the connection when using DHCP, and no idea why it ran fine with DHCP for three years either

Nothing else on the network quietly giving out DHCP addresses? Or another device with the same address? I.e. had anything changed?

No, nothing changed, and no other DHCP server. Nothing new in the house too
The other Raspberry Pi seems fine, for now - may have a different version of OS though

Exactly as per the reddit thread - fine for years, then it would be fine during the day and lose its connection overnight, except mine is on wifi and a 3B:

The deal-breaker, though, is that it always loses network connection during the night (it's connected to the router by an ethernet cable, and the router is configured to assign a static IP address to the RPi4). I would wake up in the morning to find that I can no longer access any of my self-hosted services (including SSH) and would need to hard reboot the RPi4 to get my services back.
