The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

There is that. There is a parallel with motorcycles - it's all about image and not the 'experience'. I remember an anecdote about some guy buying a new motorcycle, sitting on one in the dealer and asking the wife does it go with his jacket.

Just for myself, I was hoping that cycling would take me further than walking, for the same kind of effort so to speak, which I think it does, if not massively. Like in the old days, the guy cycling to the railway station and back, quicker and easier than walking, or the old fashioned bobby doing his beat on his bicycle.

There have a been a few notable exceptions to the fitness vs. weight rule over the years.
At the time I started and was following the TT results, c.1980 you'd regularly see Paul 'Porky' Bennett near the top of the results sheets. This was a guy who must have been over 15st, but could do a 52-minute 25 mile TT in the time before aero wheels , frames and Tr-bars. He continued to sweep up Vet's prizes for another 20 years. I never saw him in the Hillclimb results though !

Well done, I watched it a little while ago.

Found this interesting.
I have a bottle or two of High-5 high carb. energy drink when I do a long ride, though I never consume it at anything close to the rates mentioned in the video - no Ketones though, other than what I produce myself!

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

I did a virtual race on Zwift this evening - averaged 25mph and finished only 5seconds behind the winner. Chuffed with that.
