Beryl Burton, my god yes.
Barry Hoban - good man - nice to have that.
At some point in '83 or '84 my friend and I rode right across Manchester and up to Holme Moss, to watch the 'Bristol>Bradford' race come through.
We were in awe of anyone climbing Holme Moss after 200 miles.
First guy through was Ludo Peters from Peter Post's Dutch team, ( was it Ti-Raleigh at the time ? ).
But - a local hero Keith Lambert managed to get 2nd place - great effort.

Yes indeed,. Shame no mention of Ludo, but he may be hiding behind Joop Zoetemelk, in the first picture !
I had a TI Raleigh long-sleeved top at that time - took it to the Alps in '84. I have a picture of myslef in a small cafe waering it, after we'd just come down from the Galibier.

You can buy a replica TI Raleigh jersey to recreate your Youf (as Mr. B would say)
There's a TI Raleigh page on Wikipedia that lists Ludo on the team roster.

Thanks Ray, I'll have a look at that later, should be good !
Meanwhile, i found this, looks like that race I watched was in May 1981. I was only 15 !

Look who's third - before he was famous.
It's hard now to imagine my parents letting us go out and ride right across Greater Manchester, at the age of 15 - but I suspect we didn't tell them in much detail where we were going !

Yep, that's about par, I can't recall ever saying where we were going when we headed off as teenagers and, of course, we had no mobile phones to keep in touch if anything happened. probably not even any money for a public phone.IslandPink wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 7:15 pm ...but I suspect we didn't tell them in much detail where we were going !

That's a fine shot of Merckx et al in the Paris Roubaix.

Yes, it's a really nice image...
I did my first 100Km ride for qute a while this afternoon, working up to the 100mile RideLondon event at the end of the month. it was beautiful weather, sunny and warm, apart from a fairly stiff breeze.

Good effort ! Yes, there was a northerly breeze here. I had to contend with it on my ride today, which was another 1hr 35min, 132bpm.
Lovely scenes though, the horse-chestnuts are in bloom, plus the hawthorn bushes.
Just about to have dinner, with the Giro TT to watch.

This Ben Tulett youth looks a bit handy.

Yep, going well for a 19yr old - just hope he looks after himself and doesn't over-reach as he could have another 15+ years and probably another 5yrs before he gets near his peak.

This is my newest bike acquisition;
It will be installed on my static trainer next weekend - just need to swap the current 11speed cassette for a 10speed to suit the new bike's Tiagra groupset.
