For a nice bit of comedy and a large dose of WTF, check out Mythbusters Season 4, Episode 19, in which they attempt to build a subwoofer powerful enough to tear a car apart. It's currently available on UK Netflix for those who have it, and on Putlocker for those who don't (and who don't mind cheating). They managed to hit 161dB at 15hz without using anything so tiresome as electricity. Mr. Idler couldn't stop laughing, though I was unsure how much of that was the hilarity of the results and how much was the way they chose to go about it.
