Just got all the bits for one of these - wanted one for years - http://www.pmillett.com/ATEST.htm - project for the coming week...

For the record, what sound card would folk recommend - never really been into PC sound much before... (and I have a stand-alone spectrum analyser anyway).

Have to say, I'm very impressed with the quality of the boards etc.

I use a m-audio 24/96 with mine, but I am sure newer better is out there. Its a very useful bit of kit.

If you search the tread on DIY you'll find a summary page done by me that covers the various mods, it was a couple of years ago, but it should help.

I use and EMU 1212 PCIe, get the beta version of the driver if you have more than a dual core CPU; there's a bug in the stock version.

I haven't built it yet (no time) but I got all the parts from the US (Mouser & Digikey) - free delivery if you order more than 50 quid from either, so I split the order as neither on their own had all the parts. Extremely rapid delivery (2 days from the US) and split orders (something out of stock) are delivered FoC (in my case, just two little electrolytics - about 80p's worth FedExed on their own!).

I used Pete's BOM (it had an error) and worked on that. His PCB is VERY high quality (imho).

I also bought some uMetal stick-on shielding (some A4 sheets).

In summary, no problems so long as you order more than 50 smackers at a time...

Where did you get that from. I used copper shielding, but uMetal would be nice to have.

Not cheap, but seems to be par for the course. Not actual uMetal but a modern equivalent (supposed to be better). Rated well by the "community". Solders well.

Dunno if anyone else has seen this but the December issue of 'Everyday Practical Electronics' has construction details of another USB Interface that might be interesting to some here too. I've scanned the spec of the device in for your perusal.
