#1 Arm - detachable headshell

Post by Aardvark »

Hi Chaps,

Does anyone have any recommendations for a tonearm to go on my PT Export so that I can have some fun cartridge swapping? I'm currently using a Reson Mica in an original Origin Live Silver Taper arm. I've just acquired a V15VxMR and have a AT-F3 Stilton body (anybody remember those?) in the cupboard and would also like to try the Denon DL106 that seems to be flavour of the month.

Or is this just asking too much from one arm?

The SME 3009 might be synergistic with the Sure cartridge.

Note that said SME3009, not the improved version - there's more mass to play with, and correspondingly it should work with a wider range of cartridges.

Suspension is bouncy, really quite slack compared with say an LP12, TD160. I remember looking at the 3009 with almost uncontrolled longing 35 years ago (well I was only a teenager  ) does it still cut the mustard today?

If you had lust for a 3009 then I suggest satisfying that lust
If your deck or cartridges just don't get on with the SME then you should find it relatively easy to move on.

I have a SME3009 2imp on a TD125 MkII, and I love the arm. My cart is pretty compliant tho'.

I have a 3009 detachable headshell model which I could part with.

I think it's an original 3009, but not 100% sure, how does one tell ?

No to S III.
They need compliant cartridges to work properly, same as S2 Imp.

The sticker on the base just says SME 3009.

What bit do you want piccy of ?

The whole arm - detail of the pivot/counterwight area would be most useful.

A pic from the pivot point back would help, model identification is easiest by looking at the counterweight/end stub set up.

Beaten to it LOL

I have been through all the 3009 info i can find recently trying to work out what mine is.

Turns out mine is a super oddball, very early series II, but its different from any other 3009 i can find info/pics of.

Mine is an early S2 Imp - I know that it was purchased in early 1973 because the original owner told me so.
The difference between mine and slightly later models is literally down to the outrigger for the anti-skate weight.
