I saw these on e-bay earlier on, and initially was more than tempted. Only disadvantage is collect only.

I always remember Fane being the 'poor man's choice' of loudspeaker, roughly aligned with Embassy label 7" singles.

Celestion and JBL were considered top notch, as I recall.

I'm talking public address loudspeakers here.

Still, looks like a good buy for the dosh and Cambridge, for me, is fairly local-ish (or would be if I had a motor, lol)

Yep looks strictly public address. Corrugated paper surround but one looks curiously modified in that area. So won't be matched then :?:

It was them and Baker in "my day" :D (= poor student), QC could be a bit of an issue as I remember. Had to rebuild one properly once!

I did not bid last time, but they came up again and (after a rush of blood) this time I have won them.

Tony could not bring my Eminence 15" speakers to Eggborough so I thought these would do to play with.

Yes,noticed they don't appear to be a pair, but at the price including cabs it's a good deal I think.

According to the seller, both units are of the same type. I will find out tomorrow afternoon (Monday) when I pick them up. (in my van  )

Christ knows where I am going to put them. :?

I've got the speakers home now.

Nearly gave myself a hernia getting them out of the van.

Just took the back off one cabinet and it has "a high efficiency anisotropic ferrite magnet".

WOW ! Never had one of them before. And (shock horror) they are Northern !! Batley, Yorkshire.

They are in my hallway at the moment, can't get to the front door.

To save you looking it up, an anisotropic ferrite magnet is -----"A method is provided which comprises preparing pulverized ferrite having a magnetoplumbite type crystal structure of hexagonal system, mixing and kneading the ferrite with a viscous binding agent, subjecting the mixture to rolling to form a sheet-like mass with the easy axis being orientated in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the ferrite sheet by making use of anisotropic configuration of the crystal grains of the pulverized ferrite, rolling the sheet-like mass into a desired shape, and sintering and magnetizing the shaped ferrite."

The cabinets are being dismantled because

A) So I can get to the front door.

B) So I can have a big box of used screws

C) To replenish my pile of MDF for breadboarding

D) I can get the 18" units in my current "bass bin" cabinets.

E) There is no E (copyright A I )

A pair of 18" drivers... We can guess who you're trying to match this time...

As they say in USA,

There's no substitute for cubic inches (ie bigger is better)

At least I'm only using one 18" unit for each speaker.
