A topic for sporadic unrelated thoughts and musings


#1.
For some considerable time I have carefully managed to avoid getting "zapped", however I was caught out yesterday evening.

There's these two 8.2uF polypropylenes strapped onto a bit of hardboard that haven't been used for months and months and months, well sometime early last year anyway. In fact were taken out of a chassis box that has since been converted into something completely different, namely the power supply for Rocky IV/ Aurora-7.

So I'm scratching about looking for something to replace the o/p caps in me phono pre cos the values aren't big enough. Ah-ha, I'll use these if they can be shoe-horned in. Yes they can, OK then bare and prepare wire ends etc., now this one is going to have to be positioned like so (holding both leads) ~ ZOINK!!

Oh really? Like that is it? OK then, what's the other one like; screwdriver blade across bared wire ends, walloping big blue flash :shock:

I'm very impressed that they could hold that charge for > 6 months Image

PS me fingers were numb for 5 minutes

I still haven;t worked out how it happened, but I got a BG WKZ from AE once, and it arrived with about 100v charge on it.

Why is it necessary for RS to post a handful of resistors in two separate jiffy bags? Image

Hi Mike,

This might well be to do with RS's standard of customer service which I'm sure you acknowledge is very good.

It reminds me of a couple of years ago when I made an order at a Trade Counter for some parts. I went in next day to collect and the order was part filled. Outstanding parts amounted in value to under £5. I explained that I needed to complete the build I was working on that day. In response, they motorcycle couriered down my cheap bits to my home from Birmingham to Bristol in under two hours :shock:

It doesn't make ecological sense but you can't knock the level of customer service.
