I'm a bit put out that Suella Braverman is my mum's MP and she actually voted for her based on the rubbish she reads every day in what purports to be a newspaper...
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Might depend on where you live. Evri usually get to me OK.andrew Ivimey wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 5:40 pm I've had six Evri deliveries in the past two weeks - must be cheap. They have all arrived safely and before the tracking software said they would arrive - thanks to neighbour 'cisco I was out. thanks also to my porch 'cos my neighbour can't look out for my deliveries all the time.
I am reminded of a story a few years ago, a chap 'phoned Royal Mail chasing up a package, and was put onto the Vauxhall sorting office, the nice lady there said she wasn't surprised, 'things around here tend to go walkies' i.e., stolen

Was a little while ago, hopefully has improved.

Grant snapps ( I think ) is an advocate of those under 16 and over 75 not having the vote .

Is that actual age, or mental age ?Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 4:06 pm Grant snapps ( I think ) is an advocate of those under 16 and over 75 not having the vote .

If I had my way , they'd also use intelligence as a marker. Which unfortunately for you would mean you had to get some education or never be allowed to vote .

So, do you equate education to intelligence ?Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 5:36 pm If I had my way , they'd also use intelligence as a marker. Which unfortunately for you would mean you had to get some education or never be allowed to vote .

I should keep out of this, but:
"the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills."
I would have said acquiring knowledge and skills is by definition what education is.

I agree, but not necessarily formal education like going to school, college or university.

#16017 Re: Nothing In Particular
I was bought up in an intensely academic environment: my father was a senior LSE and Cambridge professor and my step mother was a senior don at both Oxford and Cambridge. I also went to a very academic school. My mother was incredibly bright and into her 90s was still getting 300+ in Scrabble and did the times crossword in about 20 minutes...
Consequently I met a lot of very very educated and bright people - some (my father included) were globally recognised as brilliant.
My father may have been a world authority on constitution and administrative law, but he couldn't really handle shoe laces or make a cup of coffee.
A lot of the most brilliant folk I knew were not very functional on a day-to-day basis - some would best be described as a mile deep and an inch wide. A few, and only a few, were genuine polymaths.
Education and intelligence are very important, but not as important as originality and nous!

No one mentioned that. You do realise you are disagreeing with yourself.

It seems to be scammers night on Ebay motors tonight.
I must have reported 8 different scams to Ebay tonight, the most current one is 350 miscellaneous vehicles and rising.
The one previous to that, while Ebay were deleting on one members site the scammer was still adding.
If you use Ebay, make sure you have a strong password.
