connectin mc step ups

i just received some cinemag step ups and want to put them in my pre amp. can anyone tell me why i shouldn't connect the primarys to one set of phono sockets and the secondaries to another. then connect the second set to the phono stage input. this would allow me to connect a mc cart to the first set or a mm to the second without the need for a switch or rewiring. would the step ups cause a problem if i was just using a mm cart to the second set ? hope that makes sense

Depends if the MM cart would be affected by having the secondary of the stepups across it.
