in reference to post #215..
The boy has just announced that he can't play his guitar because he has fret buzz, and he'd messed about with the action.....mm
I checked and he wound the bridge up to the limit and the action at the 12th fret was nearly 1/4 inch....ho hum(little bit of waily).
I took the action back down and redid the intonation. It's left handed so I couldn't really give it a good workout, but checking the action on individual strings seems ok.
I chastised him and gave it back to him. Sometime later I checked and he'd release the string tension and 2 strings had dropped off(he'd cut the excess string too close to the winding peg, against my advice)...
Anyway, when questioned he said that when he put pressure on the neck it would bend!*!%^%$£.
I'm out of ideas, and patience, I suggested he needed a luthier to check the neck and possibly redress it....
big waily!! any suggestions for my next move....he's started GCSEs so I don't want to be too heavy handed.

Acpustic not ekectric? Fixed height bridge?
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Ha! your right on the money. Before launching into the build guitar fiasco I tried to convince him that he wanted an electro acoustic like the jumbos in gear 4 music. Oh no, he wanted to build an electric. Without my knowledge he bought a neck which is how he forced my hand to build.
anyway, he's away playing cricket at the mo so I sent a message to a local luthier, waiting for a reply. The mem sahib has just told me that in the meantime he had completely taken his guitar apart. I think that kind of ends my involvement...I will have to apologise to the luthier for wasting his time.
even bigger waily!

An inveterate fiddler! A luthier could cure all guitar setup issues but your lad will still fiddle. Despair! Run away!
