This is the stuff we're drinking at the moment:
https://rawbean.co.uk/products/definite ... offee-227g
Waitrose sell it as, I suspect, do other members of the usual suspects...
It's ok. I can't claim that it's wonderful, but it's decent.
Claims "Strength 4", but I'd rate it as a 3. I'm still looking for a stronger one...

£6.49!!!!!! You're pulling my plonker, no really.
That Taylors of Harrogate decaff is £4.30. It used to be discounted to £3-50 every two weeks but that was ages ago. I've had words with the local Saintzberg manager about this and he just looks vague; just because he has a USA Fender Telecaster cuts no ice avec moi ...whatever floats yer boat, I'd still like a bag or two of Taylor's decaff.
Waitrose I used to go to for breakfast as the newspapers were free, now I don't go ' very often', not that the staff aren't friendly - they are, but the croissants in Lidls are delicious ---two cafes I frequent just pop out and buy them there - I've asked. simples.
I'm going off Java ( dead men don't wear plaid) and open to other suggestions. One has to compromise.

Yep. It's expensive but being fair, in Waitrose it's "only" £6. At the moment it's a new product and regarded as a premium one at that. Not, IMHO, show-stoppingly expensive though...

Hmmmmmmmmm.mmmm, geddit. Swisswater - really...
This decaff is nearly twice as expensive as Machu Pichu decaff in Sainsberg. There are many peeps who really can't afford swisswater decaff in Waitrose. I'd like to give it a go, just for cursiossity, as my old mum used to say. I'll save up a bit, but I'd rather try Aldi even though, probably, it isn't as jolly nice.
Maybe I'll wait til it becomes just another same- ish product the tastes the same as any other.

Is the aversion to coffee hereabouts got summit to do with it affecting some health conditions?
I mean if Doc says so, then it's a no. But why?
My understanding is, some, not so bad. Lots, not so good.
There seems to be so much conflicting info.

For me it's quite simple; with the peeing in the night symptoms of my prostate situation one of the first things the GP asked was 'do you drink much coffee', when i said I did she recommended giving up caffeine. Six weeks on and I've only had decaf since and my night time peeing has improved such that I can almost get right through most nights, now typically only wanting to go at around 5am, which isn't really a problem for me as I'm always up and about by 6am. Apart from any possible psychological aspects, I can be pretty confident it is cutting out the caffeine that has improved the situation as I'm not doing anything else differently.izzy wizzy wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2024 4:02 am Is the aversion to coffee hereabouts got summit to do with it affecting some health conditions?

A G.P. warned me off caffeine because of blood pressure which with a statin and a b.p. reducing pill, my b.p. on average is well below 'normal' for someone my age.
I just really like coffee.
As farcas cancer, we'll, I drink much too much wine. That's why I pee.

I had another appointment at the hospital today, to follow up on the recent PET-CT scan.
The bad news is that my Gleason score is 4+5 so only one step below the worst score and, in simple terms, indicative of the cancer being aggressive. The PET-CT scan has shown some cancer cells in the lymph glands in my hip area too.
The good news is that the medical team consider it treatable and, with a bit of good fortune the treatment plan is intended to be curative.
The message from the team is that they're going after the cancer with an aggressive treatment plan, and I start it next next week.
The first stage of treatment wlll be hormone therapy to cut my testosterone, that should 'starve' the cancer and reduce it's size.
The second stage will be a course of chemotherapy targeting both the prostate and lymph glands
The third stage will be radiotherapy, again targeting the prostate and lymph glands.
Surgery is not an option because of the presence in the lymph glands.
It's not great news but I had prepared myself mentally and I feel fairly relaxed and just want to get get on with treating it. I'm determined to carry on living and not succumb to negativity and I'm determined to keep working and riding to have something to focus on and to keep myself fit.
BTW, the message about cutting out caffeine being a positive step was thoroughly reinforced by the medical team.

Great positive determination, Ray. A fight worth having and worth winning. Wishing you good progress.
