That's a shame, although my visits are sporadic.
Without the WD forum would there have ever been Audio-talk ?

Oh. Shame. Best wishes to all who have tried. A sign of the times.

In the scheme of things who cares?
You can't change how people treat you or what they say about you. All you can do is change how you react to it.

If there are only ever a few active real users there is no need for a cloud-hosted instance...
...do something like...
Get a backup of the forum, create a local docker container for it on a private subnet with PHP5, ban all robots in robots.txt (or at least all the robots that actually acknowledge robots.txt), create a pipe to the container via your firewall on the private subnet. Limit concurrent usage to say 5 users.
Zero cost except a bit of bandwidth and some time.
Being fair, PHP5 is crap and riddled with security holes. Older versions of PHPmailer, if they are used, are also vulnerable and should not be used. Maybe just disable all email from the site.

Doesn’t mean a lot to me but I’ll pass it on and see if that helps.

Thats a shame, without the WD forum I wouldn't have known about the EggyFests. Actually I think it was in the WD room at a Heathrow Hifi show I met some of what would become the AT 'gang'.pre65 wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 2:29 pm That's a shame, although my visits are sporadic.

I posted Nick(Jack)’s suggestion on WD. Matthew (site owner) likes the idea but, like myself, lacks the necessary computer skills to carry it out. Is there anyone who could help him sort it out?

It probably needs to be someone local and hands-on as although not complex, it's fiddly and all the tricky bits are in the detail. A lot of that detail will depend on the setup Matthew wants to use: make and model of router, switch types (if any), Windows, Mac or Linux (and versions) etc. Lots of variables...
