Series crossovers are more tricky than parallel. Start simple, see where you end up.

What are the speakers/drivers?

The 3rd diagram is how James series connected his Quazars.

It is Paul. I had mine wired like this too. Then I tried without a passive crossover and was surprised at the increase in clarity.

What do you mean? No crossover at all, or actuve crossover?

I dont know but maybe quad 57 has no passive crossover, and whatever you say about the changing resistance depending on the frequency. Something else about 57’s lets you forgive them. I think that something, no other speaker on earth or Mars can do aswell, and that includes all other quads built after 1957, they never found how to include the sound of the 57 which firgives all their vagueries.

I think its the Briggs shape, because when I used that shape in my field coil open baffle. Added to which the field coil driver has many other similarities to the 57.

I was born in 57.

Daniel Ed and Nick will be bighting their tonge and wanting to say so what?

It matters to me, leave me alone! In my stroke away day, they sent many disciplines to my bed. I liked them all most of all the physios and the ones i forgot what they are called. In most hospitals they have green piping on their uniform. That girl was a star in my eyes. She asked, ‘what hobbies do you have. I said, I like designing and building radio valve amplifiers. She said you carry on doing that Paul, its the best way you can recover.

So im not giving up, though there will require progress first, if I keep my blood pressure low I may never have another stroke and in time my brain and nervous system can re-learn to control my muscular skeleton. I have CAA which is familial. Me and Sam reasoned it wasnt in our family but 90 year old Uncle David was with us for a family meal the night I came home. He waited patiently for all the foolish younger people had finished talking crap. Then he said. Youre Grandfather and youre great grandfather died of a stroke. Anyway keeping bp down you can avoid the bleed tyoe of stroke which I suffered. So Im still holding the torch for valves. So I’ll more likely die of a high voltage shock, LOL. But Ill live happy until then.oh its filtered to my conscious brain. Occupational therapist.

A bit of a mix really. Originally I tried a cheap class D subwoofer module, so built-in active crossover with a 180Hz low pass IIRC. That surprised me, along with direct coupling whatever valve amp I was using at the time to the Fostex 208. There was a complementary mechanical HP filter from the baffle for the 208. So the Fostex was back to "single full range driver", where I started. Clarity improved, as did the life in the music.

Currently I'm using 18" bass drivers with a MoFo (or would be if it wasn't poorly at the moment) which has a simple RC LP filter in the amp so again the amp is direct coupled to the driver.

I have used an active 3 way op amp Linkwitz Reilly 4th order crossover which I thought worked pretty well. I'd like to try JFETs instead of op amps at some point. I'm still using that LP filter with a class D amp for the subs. So the amp is direct coupled to the speaker drivers again.

There are people that will read this in horror. But that's what I've found best for me, so far anyway. It's all compromises, we just have to pick our own. At the moment I prefer multiple direct coupled amp and speaker combinations to cover the frequency range, with filters upstream, ideally in the amp. Slope doesn't seem too important to me, nor exactly where they cross/overlap. Maybe it will become more important the more I play and learn.

If it were still the fostex and awoofer I would protect the fostek from bass only in the bypass caps frequency.

I do it with the coupling cap as it was easier, but essentially the same thing, yes

My stroke was because of undiagnosed blood pressure , it happened on my right side in the part of my brain called basil gangular .Only 2 out 10 people who have a stroke in this part of the brain survive . So I’m lucky and each day is a bonus . Medication keeps it down now , so I’m hoping I don’t have another one , but nobody knows what damage was originally done 😂

Main problem now is chronic pain . I currently trying cannabis pils .

These speakers are wharfedale boxes and drivers from ali express and one is a dome midrange which needs protecting .hence my question

Can’t wait to see if there good or crap .
