#1 1626s Wanted
Has anyone got any 1626s to sell?
I'd love to build a headphone amp with a pair.
Thanks
Steve

Very probably Steve - lovely 12 volt heater triode. I'll have a look.
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

I have two somewhere you can have. I wasn’t ove impressed by the sound the 71a is a better audio valve of similar power. But I guess they are considerably more expensive. Never tried either in a headphone amp. Never built a headphone amp. Love the 71a in an audio amp, but Ive proved myself the worlds worst efficient speakers builder. Maybe that is just the rooms I have. The one we used to listen in was cubic proportions. I guess that was my worst room choice.
Actually no the 71a is very cheap but only available from USA on abay atm and postage from usa is exorbitant these days.
So you can have my two. On a quick google I saw Gary Kaufman has a pse circuit (which was the first /only 1626 audio circuit without searching under darling) so if Andrew finds two you could build that. Its a ecc88 into parallel darlings. You should link the heater supply to the cathode potential voltage potential through a voltage divider.
You should search the Darling Fest story from Sound Practices. It was published also elsewhere so not copywrited to Sound Practices exclusively. Way back it was published in Audio assylum. jeremy Epstein published it there also.
It is a fun learning experience but imho not a great sounding low powered valve. 71a is a killer valve in comparrison.

I've probably got some too steve, but I'm not in a position to check at the moment
The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

I've found the "Hello Darling" article from Sound Practices and "Darling Fest 99" by Jeremy Epstein. I'll have a read of both with afternoon tea.Paul Barker wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 7:45 am

Steve, the N in the post code was probably the clerk misreading my H as an N because the address in my address book is correct. So a clerical error I didnt spot.
I dont know what they do about this, but my address is on the pasel, so if they dont spot the mistake they will send it back to me, and I’ll send it again. If they spot the mismatch of the address with the post code they may still send it to you. We’ll just have to wait and see.
In the first instance no human looks at addresses a machine detects the post code, so its now an AI bun fight waiting for a human interaction. Or AI will send it back to me.

Leeds MC eventually sent them to Manvers sorting office. The postie knows us so at said sorting office, they put the valves on the right van and delivered the parcel to the correct place. Excellent what a bit of local knowledge can do.
