Looking shoddy, Steve.
I have some Maplin amplifier modules so I might pinch your build approach...

Just a bit of rearranging of the equipment and it all looks a lot better:

Spent a couple of days rearranging the inside, starting with this sub-assembly, intended to allow the volume and selector switch to be moved to the rear of the case. There had been a slight hum, caused by my rather silly oversight of putting the mains transformer too near the input selector and volume control.
All wired up: Music now arises out of total blackness as they say.

Modded the front panel this afternoon, so that it follows more closely, the aesthetics of the valve amp.

More cosmetics: It looks more like the valve amp than the valve amp.
I also made up some new speaker cables: These use 12 cores of insulated 0.6mm solid core wire per leg and perform very nicely.
I also changed the 300VA - 2x30V mains transformer to a 300VA - 2x25V job as I want this amp to last. Ultimate power will be down but it’s not really that big of a problem in my tiny living room.I also made up some new speaker cables: These use 12 cores of insulated 0.6mm solid core wire per leg and perform very nicely.
