#1 Logitech Squeezebox Radios rebooting recently.

Post by Dave the bass »

Hello,

This is an odd one. We have 3 SB Radios (Kitchen, Shed, Julie's workroom) which are used everyday, recently the Kitchen radio started rebooting itself after what we thought was a pause in audio caused by rebuffering. Its not. The Kitchen radio started showing this symptom 1st and then the others have been copying it over a period of approx 6 months!

Neither of the 2 SB Touch devices or the Rasp Pi which all run off the same Vortexbox server do this.

Now the Kitchen radio wont get past the 'Free the music' graphic screen when it attempts to reboot, this is a new (worrying) problem.

I've changed the supplied SMPS which hasn't made a difference and even temporarily substituted the SMPS with one of my bench PSUs, no change, it seems the problem is based inside with SB Radio itself.

Meh.

Has anybody here heard reports of SB Radios doing this?

Crikey! - not yet.

Yeah, odd innit.

Are your SB Radios used daily MrI? I wondered if theres an electronic timebomb or summat in them?!

I've not trawled the internet yet to find out if this is a known issue.

I've wondered that too but hmmmmm. One SB is in use daily. One gets partial and one's in a box- just in case.
Around the house now, I bought up a bag full of old Bose machines which ensure BBC 4, and 3 anywhere I want to wander in Bedford Towers. Right now a Vortexbox is driving SB with some old John Mayall.

Interweb-trawling reveals this from 14 years ago on an archived Slimdevices forum...

"Unplug your Squeezebox Radio.
Press the More button while simultaneously plugging your Squeezebox
Radio back in.
‘Factory Settings Restored’"

Well thats got the frozen Kitchen radio out of the reboot cycle. Seems odd they've all started dropping off their perches gradually.
