7 day bug.

I caught it at Potters last week, first noticed slight symptoms last Thursday evening.

Feeling bilious, but not actual sickness, complete lack of appetite, delicate stomach but not diarrhoea, no energy at all. Bad cough, but strangely no mucus or snot. Impaired smell and taste. It's not Covid.

Now, a week on, I'm starting to eat better, but the cough is randomly still annoying.

Seems most of our club members who went last week have also had something very similar.

Perhaps calling it the 7 day bug was a misnomer ?

I bumped into a lady up the road whilst using the local post box.

She told me she had something similar, but after 5 weeks she was still feeling some minor symptoms and the lack of any energy. Time will tell.

I picked up my new specs this morning, something of a relief as I lost my glasses on a train, two days before my eye test appointment last Friday!

My Mk.1 eyeballs are in good shape for my age so I just needed a new prescription for reading and DSE work, and I'm now back to reading small print.

Modern eye tests are impressively sophisticated compared with the 'hand in front of one eye and read as many letters as you can' tests of yesteryear, though I wasn't entirely co-operative as I kept pre-emptively blinking when they were assessing the pressure of my eye balls and in the end a second technician had to help me to keep my eyes open!

After getting over the 21 day bug, I seem to have something else.

Started after I had pie, mash and beans at Basildon hospital cafe on Monday 8th.

Mum is still in hospital, but they are wanting her out, and she can't get out of bed on her own or use a toilet. I'm currently negotiating (or trying to) some respite or rehabilitation.

Jean left her Mums to come home earlier, and she'd only got as far as Doncaster when she got a call to say her Mum had fallen over, so she's turned back to sort that out.

The pie and mash line almost sounds like a joke ... if only ... I have eaten in there tho, but no consequences.


I had some bad news this morning, a friend of some years ago, think I first knew him from 1996 - 7 -ish (we first conversed via Usenet - remember that?), he used to run a Kate Bush fan forum, anyway I knew he had cancer for a while, and just learned today he passed away yesterday. Vegetarian, non-smoker, go figure.
However I do remember him smoking a bit of weed some years ago, no actual tobacco tho as far as I can recall.

So that was a bummer.

Another 1 less Xmas card I'll be getting.

We just heard that the lady in our village who supplies us eggs died yesterday. Only in her 50s.

And an old boy just round the corner is on his last legs.

I went to see my doctor this afternoon, got an face to face appointment within two hours of ringing up.

She's changed one of my BP medications and reinstated an "acid" pill for one month.

So, should be right as rain in a day or so.

She's lovely.

Omeprazole to be accurate. I did stop taking them a year or so ago, and they were removed from my prescription, but I still have enough left for 4 weeks @ 2 per day.

Times have changed - you can buy omeprazole over the counter these days.
