Yep, though it can fail when confronted with the smiling psychopath, though one could argue that that is unlikely to also be an idiot.

He did say that it wasn't fool-proof - SWIDT, apposite word. Good rule-of-thumb though...

The good old days! I suppose all the attendees of Boris Johnson's parties will look back on their 'good old days' . Party party party!

Going on from a comment Nick made about the high percentage of Porsche vehicles still on the road, this short (ish) video shows a 911 on a jig and having bodywork pieces replaced.

I suppose the value of the repaired car, and the fact that parts are available make such repairs worthwhile. :)

Along similar lines, this series may interest Phil

Did anyone see this about an electro-mechanical VLF transmitter in Sweden called the Alexanderson Alternator. Nearly 100 years old and used twice a year. Broadcasts on 17.2kHz

The start-up sequence is mind-boggling

Yeah, not arf!

I joined a local Radio Club earlier this year, a couple of members were talking about the VLF transmitter but I didn't quite understand what was going on when it came up in a conversation. I've been learning this year about radio in general, summat I've not been involved in since CB-days circa 81-83 for me when FM on 11m (27MHz) became legal. I sit my Radio Ham Foundation exam in March 2024 :)

Ta for the links, thats tonights research lined up nicely.

Cheers for that Brian 8)

You're welcome Dave and good luck with the exam
It's fascinating, but too late for me to build anything for this year - who knows for next year though - might have a go
