Another "inspiration" gone.

Look, you lot, could you just stop dying please? It’s getting to be too much to bear.

It occurs to me that we are experiencing a new phenomenon. My parents were born around 1920, so their late teens and early twenties were spent in the war years which carried their own horrors, but our generation born in the fifties was exposed to an explosion of access to radio, TV and recorded sound in our teens, and developed a large number of more or less intense relationships with musicians, actors and other assorted artists who often went on to have profound lifelong effects on us.
Most of these characters were maybe five or ten years older than us, so now we approach our later years they’re dropping like flies. It seems that hardly a day goes by without hearing that another figure who lives in my mind as young, vital and full of creative energy has gone.
In a way, it was easier to accept the loss of Hendrix, Joplin et al as romantic casualties of the rock and roll lifestyle. Now, each new passing seems to bring home the thought that if they have gone, I won’t be far behind!
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Living to a ripe old age, being unable to cope with inability to control bodily functions and perhaps having dementure as well does not sound at all appealing either.

You need to get some false teeth for that.

That's what dementia does for you.

Cause of death is undisclosed, but she had repeated bouts with breast cancer.

Those so inclined can support her Cancer institute:

That could help slow down some of the deaths.
