Well, the "resource to build electric car" could and may well be > "resource to build fossil fuel car", and depending on the generation method for electricity "resource to run electric car" nay be non zero.

But in general yes.

And that a proportion of petrol/diesel vehicles have already been built and will stay on the road for years after the ban.
Yes, but what effect does that have on anything?

Unless you are suggesting a scraping scheme of some sort. I think the clean air restriction being created around cities are designed to nudge people into getting rid olf older vehicles sooner.

But that’s entirely and different equation to the one ed detailed which is the new car decision.

Ed, I think that premise is simplistic and probably inaccurate.
Well, I think its accurate enough (with my modifications) to work with, or are you suggesting that doing nothing is better?

OK, but is it known what rules/regulations may be applied to current/older vehicles using synthetic fuels ?

Not by me, and I agree that synthetic fuels will be important, but I doubt that it will be mass market, more of a enthusiasts thing at a higher price. There is talk that Audi/Porsche would get involved with F1 if synthetic fuels were adapted.

"A brief visit by Tesla boss Elon Musk to Luton has ignited rumours that he is considering a Tesla factory in the UK.

The electric car mogul flew into Luton Airport on a private jet last weekend and stayed two days, reports say.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the visit coincides with a hunt by UK officials for "a major new car plant" location.

The secrecy around the bids has led to speculation that Mr Musk may be involved."

Don’t imagine these will be cheap, but interesting nonetheless.

Nice. I have a feeling that Hydrogen powered road vehicles, particularly HGVs, will become a viable way forward in the future.

But you still have the problem of generating the H2 (in a carbon neutral way) in the first place to solve.

This will make for a better police force then?
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Not necessarily.

ed wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 1:11 pm am I being a bit slow here, but...

resource to build fossil fuel car := x
resource to run fossil fuel car:= y

resource to build electric car:= x (give or take + resource for battery)
resource to run electric car:= 0 (give or take)

isn't the comparison y vs 0 ?
The 0 is incorrect, resources so far in this country do not equate to zero emissions

Not likely at this point in time
