re-stringing a Faith
#1 re-stringing a Faith
A question that only Mr Ivimey might be interested in...
Andrew, have you ever had any trouble re-stringing your Faith????
I have been cussing big time this morning, putting a new set of D'addarios on my Juputer. The bridge pegs don't grip the holes on mine and as soon as I get anywhere near in tune the peg comes out like a champaign cork and I have to go searching for it.
The trick I've found is to get the brass binding ring on the end of the string hooked at the bottom of the bridge hole. Without this snagging the string just pulls the peg out of the hole.
It's the very first time I've encountered this problem in over 50 years.....
life gets harder.....Oh waily

Well what I used to do was.....
Hold the peg in as I tightened the string and guessed when enough tension would hold things as they should. It was a problem but my solution worked for me. Are your pegs new or old? Are they Faith made or substitutes?
I can get the pegs to go 'spung' on my Furch too, though with my little Faith it was a problem.

the pegs are the ones that came with the guitar circa 2013....andrew Ivimey wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 3:51 pm Are your pegs new or old? Are they Faith made or substitutes?

I never had the problem before, as far as I can remember.....all my previous guitars had pegs that were a tight fit....
If I were to use this guitar on stage I think I'd worry....

Okay well.... While holding the peg in with one hand ( thumb) and tightening the string with the other hand I give the peg a sort of twist with my thumb, seems to work.
On stage I gave a Luther to sort that sort of thing out

Yes that's all good and I expect Ed does all that too. But he and I) have had issues with what is otherwise an excellent guitar make ; Faith.
I found a cure and Ed is looking for one. The video is the basic standard which should work.

Thanks for the interest Chris, it's appreciated.......wrong assumptions though..
You may be thinking that I've learned nothing about stringing acoustics in the last 50 odd years...snigger
The Faith re-stringing note(thanks for the link) about the bridge pins says it all about Faith guitars though....it suggests bending the string adjacent to the ball so that it hooks against the bottom of the peg hole and generates the necessary peg friction......which is exactly what I managed to discover/acheive without the bending bit.....this operation(the bending) has not been necessary on any acoustic I have ever owned....and it hasn't been necessary on previous operations on the Faith, either, so I must have got lucky......
I'm thinking the bottom of the peg hole must be different on Faiths to other acoustics I've owned.....
just goes to show...we're never too old.

Have the bridge pins always been loose?
Have you looked at the bridge plate? What state is it in?
Alternatively, have you tried sourcing slightly larger diameter bridge pins?

Accepting that the bridge pins on the Faith have become enlarged there is a way to fix the holes
The video covers the issue from around 12 minutes

thanks Chris
interesting fella for sure...
unfortunately doesn't apply because my bridge holes have not become enlarged.
The Faith trick of bending the bottom of the string next to the ball seems to be the answer to this problem...the bummer is that Faith don't advertise the 'feature' so the customer has to go and find the details themselves.
nevertheless, I still have faith.
