Just spotted this on a vintage audio forum and Dave and I were highly entertained. The narration is comedy gold.
Dave points out that the anti-skate mechanism is surprisingly sophisticated in that it reduces the compensation force as the needle travels towards the record center. Or at least he thinks that's what it was doing.

The anti-skate is good in some ways ; the thread/weight ones do have the same sort of variable compensation in some cases though, the Mayware one for instance, when you look at the detail of the stub the weight is on, and how it moves.
