I've cleared an area at the end of a bit of drive - the area has been used for bonfires for years and the pea beach is full of nails and screws. I've used a small niobium magnet (about 25mm) to collect about a kilo so far but the process is slow and unreliable.
I have about 10m2 to clear and dragging a magnet on a string is far from ideal...
What solutions would the team suggest... I'm leaning towards a stonking electromagnet powered by a car battery - I need to sweep the area and not miss anything.
Magnets and nails...

Maybe first a metal detector so see where to use the magnet?

That's not the issue - basically there are nails and screws everywhere there's been a bonfire, i.e. at some point, anywhere in the area I have to clear...
