I obtained a Garmin sat nav and wanted to update the maps.
I used the Garmin web site (or so I thought) to register the device, and as a result some chap (sounded Asian) rang me and asked me to open an Email he had sent.
It was to get remote access to my computer, so I told him to f**k off and put the phone down.

That's a remote desktop tool for technical support folk.
However it's also used by fraudsters.
You did the right thing.

To be honest I don't remember.
From looking at various "Garmin map update" site entries it seems Garmin are aware that fake sites are about.
I now find that the map updates I need are chargeable, so I'm not spending £45 to update a £20 sat nav. The maps on it will do just fine.

Fair enough. But FYI, you don't need to remember, just look in your browser history. To be honest I don't remember.

I understand that Nick, but on the computer I was using I cleaned up all of my data and did anti-virus scans, so any browsing data was eliminated.
