#1 Sars-Cov-2 stuff

Post by andrew Ivimey »

So, more people are being tested and more people are getting Covid - there must be a relationship.

But how many people die of Covid, not just a co-morbidity?How many people would die anyway?

If we all got it how many need hospitals, how many would die??

If we all ( most of us except Phil the Frogg) got it we'd all be clear of it for at least three or four months....?

Or for much much longer...

3. If we all got it how many need hospitals, how many would die??

Well, this is what I understand , I'm just going by all the stats I've seen on John Campell's video diaries on Youtube recently , he seems well informed especially via stuff from O.N.S. etc so :

1. Yes :) .... and ? I think we only caught (tested) less than 1 in 10 infections in March/April, might be more like in in 5 or less now. The ONS does random samples of a few hundred regularly nowadays to get a better idea of real infection rate

2. Current best estimate for the UK seems to be that 0.5% of people who get infected, will die (the IFR). That's for the whole population. The percentages are a lot higher within higher age groups though. Might be 1 in 5 within the 70+ men age group , from memory.

3. I think the percentage of people infected needing hospital treatment is about 2.5%, five times the number who die ?

4. If we all get it suddenly then the IFR goes up to nearly 2.5% , since most of the people who would need some sort of hospital treatment also die.

Only good point is that the immunity is probably better than the scare stories we keep hearing - in that the T-cell immunity last longer and gives you less chance of getting seriously ill again.

Anecdotal experience from one person who became infected a second time is that the second infection was far worse.

Even some people who don't have to go to hospital are failing to recover -the so called long-covid sufferers. Tens of thousands are reporting problems persisting after many months and the number is increasing week by week.
