#1 Miracast.
I thought I'd make use of the "Miracast" facility on my LG smart TV, but it seems Windows 10 no longer supports the facility.
Has anyone here had better luck ?

My Lenovo laptop (T540p) does not have an HDMI port, but does have a mini display port. I have an adaptor cable to HDMI, but that won't work with the LG TV, but it will with a Samsung monitor.
An old laptop with HDMI port will connect to the LG TV via HDMI.

Tried my Chromebook, via HDMI I get the Chromebook front page on the TV screen, but no other pages (like you tube for example)
There is a message on the LG screen "Chrome OS - Extending screen to LG TV (overscan)"
But nothing else happens.
EDIT.
I found a setting in the Chromebook to mirror the display on the LG TV.
Just need a long HDMI lead now.

I tried that, but I might not have had correct instructions.
Seems Intel have stopped supporting Miracast, and I could not find a way of doing it by other means. Using the Chromebook and a long (3.6Mtr) HDMI lead will do what I want.
My "smart" LG TV (55UJ670V) will do You Tube on it's own, BUT, the limited internal memory and inability to go full screen makes it a bit of a faff.
Can you go computer - TV direct with an RJ45 cable ?

It would involve a bunch of setup. I assume your TV is conected to your router if it can see youtube, so that should be all that's needed. But I have not been paying attention to what supports what now. Don't know why Intel are involced though?

I presumed that Miracast was a product of theirs ?
Microsoft are supposed to have their own version but (as I see things) one needs a £60 dongle on the TV.

I had to look it up.
I had to look it up.
Miracast is a standard for wireless connections from sending devices (such as laptops, tablets, or smartphones) to display receivers (such as TVs, monitors, or projectors), introduced in 2012 by the Wi-Fi Alliance. It can roughly be described as "HDMI over Wi-Fi", replacing the cable from the device to the display.

Yep, I sort of know the theory, pity I can't make it work in practice.Nick wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2020 8:54 pm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracast

Thanks Max, looks like it will work with a Windows 10 PC with the Chrome browser, so that's probably the way to go.

Folk might want to consider an Android TV box - there are loads out there and they are cheap & reliable. The OS is stock Android TV direct from Google so no waiting on third parties for updates etc. Many newer "smart" TVs use stock or customised Android TV, but by having everything in a small box under your control is great and more future-proof (as much as anything can be).
Apart from all the apps, they have an inbuilt Chromecast Ultra. You can update Android and download apps from the play store just like on an Android phone.
You get a Chromecast Ultra and a whole lot more for less than the cost of a standalone Chromecast Ultra.
The one I use is a Xiaomi Mi Box S, e.g.

Works extremely well. We also use it to play media direct from USB.

Chromecast is here today. Set it up on the TV, seemingly no problems.
Will it work with my laptop ? Hell no.
On the Chrome browser there should be a place to initialise things, my version of the browser has just been updated, and the bit I (apparently) need is not there.
It must be me.

Determined not to give up, I've been trying various things, then came across this little gem.
"We no longer support Chromecast setup on a computer. To set up your Chromecast, please use a mobile device."
FUC*ING BRILLIANT.
