the previous shots were snaps at screen resolution 1280x1024

The magnification in that mode goes to 400%

from the calibration acetate supplied with the gizmo at 100%(no magnification):
cal100.jpg
and another portion of the acetate:

Is that true magnification at 200% or just scaled up Ed?

Sure does if you are intending to use it to inspect a stylus

Thanks for the link, Ed. As Neal said. I’m not sure this is up to a suitable standard for inspecting/recording an image of a stylus. Your 200% image is starting to blur the edges. My interest was because I have a quality cartridge for sale and quality images would help a sales advert. I have no doubt that it will be adequate for your own surface mount component attention need.

No worries Greg...without a cartridge to check I'm not very much help, and I've no idea how big a stylus is. I would guess it's not much use for that job if you think the 100 micron is a bit blurred.

For completeness, here is the board I bought it for. The images are at 1600x1200 and more or less fill the 24" monitor screen.

Looks ideal for most things, but agree not quite for stylus. Thanks Ed.
