The red and white socks are actually "sticky" (be quiet there at the back Bass!) - they stop your feet sliding on the floor...

Did stairs today and being discharged this afternoon. Pain management is ok but they've been injecting anticoagulants into my abdomen, which is ... Interesting... I've refused opioids so they've given me a cocktail of cocodamol, paracetamol and ibuprofen. Seems to work.

That's real quick progress Nick. Impressed by you refusing opiods too.

Talking of quick progress... I hadn't looked at the RRA records for years
http://www.rra.org.uk/
I was checking out if Gethin Butler had set the 1000 mile record after his end to end in 2001. Answer was, yes he did.
Then scanning through the numbers, the straight-out 100 mile caught my eye ! Updated in 2020.
Low and behold there's a Youtube film on it :

My brother in law somehow got kicked by a deer when cycling back from work last week :

Walked without crutches today.

Not an elegant gait, you understand - more like the zombie apocalypse. But unassisted walking none-the-less.

10 days post-op now. Seeing the consultant on 27th.

Main thing is I can get across the lawns to the workshop again ....

Good news. Well done. :)

Dressing off today. Stitches have already dissolved. No bleeding. No infection. Can't swim for another couple of weeks but can shower without wrapping my leg in cling film (which was a distinctly odd experience).

110degrees of movement in the knee - consultant says couldn't be more pleased and that noone does better than I'm doing - progress so far is excellent.

Should be on turbo trainer in a week.

Physio is ex-RN triathlete champion and knows about swimming and cycling with injuries, so will help specifically with swimming style changes. She's really chuffed and has now given me some nasty squat exercises which are... painful...

That's good Nick, you'll be back grinding out the miles before very long - modern treatment doesn't allow you to sit around too long and makes recovery quicker as you maintaim more mobility.

Any water retention in the lower leg? That's the only lasting side effect to my hip operation - exercise helps to minimise it but it's never going away completely.

First time I went to physio I was pointed at a turbo bike but couldn't get my leg over (enter DtB from stage right).

Just picked up a good s/h Tacx Flux from Facebook Marketplace in SE London. £200 quid and the guy lives just 100mtrs from one of my son's place - he's the one that just did the Dragon Ride, so nipped over & checked it out.

Should have it next week. It already has an 11s cassette - all I need is the correct quick release for my road bike frame.
