First day for the TdF in the high mountains - should start to shakedown the potential winners.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

What a fantastic stage, it certainly shookdown the leader board. Subject to a mishap I think we have our winner and the race is no about the also-ran placings.

Some of the commentary was describing Pogacar's ride as 'Merkx-like' - it was impressive the way he destroyed the peleton but I think Merkx would have pushed on and taken the stage too.

The weather here was atrocious yesterday afternoon so I treated myself to watching the last 60Km live - happenstance delivered a real treat.

#3079 The Tour de France Experience

Post by Ray P »

I indulged in a TdF experience afternoon today - rode the virtual Alpe d'Huez while watching the last 40Km of todays stage live - we even had similar wet weather (though I was on my trainer in the dry I had the garage door open so could see the rain).

Cav again - he's on fire.

Could be an epic today, two ascents of Mont Ventoux!

I'm sure you all know that it was the fearsome Ventoux that claimed Tom Simpson in '67. Never before has it been attempted twice in the same day. Awesome!

Mr Simpsin was my hero. I was going to win the TdF just for him. Ho hum.....

For those of you who like these things, my daughter is working on the Tour this year and running the wlcmagazine feed on instagram. Some "behind the scenes" insight. She was a professional rider in her time, but now it's all about the social media!

Arguable whether it was Ventoux that claimed Tom Simpson.

Considering it is so iconic it's surprising that it has featured fewer than 20 times throughout the history of the Tour.

Simpson collapsed on the Ventoux. To be clear, I don't think it was the mountains fault.

No, indeed. It doesn't look like the conditions will be too harsh today, but it's a tough stage and there seems to have been plenty of action so far.

It's nice to have someone in the family who's ridden and that level and still involved. What's her name ?

Yes, I'm very familiar with the event. He was sick and it's debatable if he should have lined up for the stage but he was driven...

Another enjoyable watch and no sheds or nets involved! - it's turning out to be a top drawer TdF.

Over to Cav again...
