According to the timetable the women's race (stage 6) should pass Stoke by Clare at 11:40 ish tomorrow (Saturday) and I hope to be in the vicinity to watch them pass by.

By that time they will have done 11.4 miles with a further 85.2 miles to go before the finish at Felixstowe.

You'll be fine as long as you don't have a phobia about athletic young women in lycra clothing.

Not at all Mark. I've been at the EBF (English Bowls Federation) national indoor bowls finals all week at Newark on Trent watching mature and extra mature ladies bowling, so it will be a nice contrast.

Good stuff Phil. Pay attention though as they'll be by in a jiffy...

Indeed, but the build up and tail end convoy added to the attraction.

LOADS of Police motorcycles before the peloton, all went through the 30 mph limit at great speed.

I think that's about as hilly as it gets. Very gentle!

Overruled!

On a Dirtfud to Sarfend ride I encountered Mount Thundersley. It was awful.

Mind you, coming back the other way was awethumness.

Ah yes, but. :)

That photo was taken in Stoke by Clare in Suffolk, and Thundersley is in Essex.

Is that hill in Thundersley still called "Bread and Cheese hill" ?

With piccalilli I presume ?

Yeah but Haverhill is almost oxymoronic. Sudbury and oh all those quaint little retentive Suffolk villages, well hoorah for the coast but that only means yhete's quite a lot of sea till you get to Holland and then it's almost totally flat where, if you're careful, doesn't get hilly till the Urals.

No bad thing but even so ...

Essex, don't talk to me about Essex. Death's too good for them...

I still remember John Peel explaining how he'd drive around Essex when travelling from Suffolk to London, rather than go through it.
