Hot day in Northern Ireland.

Ballywatticock near Newtownards records 31.2 degrees, breaking a record set 45 years ago.

And yes, DTB, that is a real place.

then back home, breakfast, then turn the computer on 9:00 am on the dot.
lookshery...

I had to go to work to turn the computer on....well, in reality it was already turned on, it was manned/womanned in 3 shifts...it ran 24/7 360 days...and was the size of a tennis court. but we had to be on the premises to use it....I maybe wrong but my memory says nobody worked from home in those days.

Car battery is shagged, won't take a charge. New one on order. Mind you has lasted 8 years.

Looking for....

a right-angled mini DIN 6 way plug.

Note its a mini DIN (like a PS2/old wired keyboard connector), not the big one, and has to be a 6-way right-angled plug...

I've looked everywhere, and it seems unless I buy 500 of them from somewhere in China, it won't happen.

Doesn't have to be new - I just need one

It was my old (03 plate) Volvo's MOT today and I managed to avoid another substantial bill - I knew it would fail on a broken wiper linkage after some numpty thought it would be fun to twist them back on a load of cars in my area - turned out the splines had been damaged so that was replaced. It did fail on one thing though - after they had been under the bonnet, checking whatever they check in there, the bonnet wouldn't latch closed so they failed it on that - it just needed the bolts slackening and a slight repositioning and all was well.

I think that has to be its last MOT though - it has done just over 200K and runs perfectly but I need to replace it before the bills do stack up, plus it has some rust appearing in a couple of places though fortunately nowhere structural (yet!). Time to seriously look at leasing a small electric vehicle I think.

Our '05 Volvo estate has a huge hole in its intercooler... Volvo wanted 650+VAT to fix it. Bought a decent pattern part on eBay for 94 quid and local garage charge 120+VAT to fit it. Same garage did the cam belt for under half volvo's charge but using Volvo bit...

Like you, just getting to a cost/benefit analysis tipping point, though we've only done 120kmiles. Incredibly useful car though...

I've had it for 12years and I've never been to a Volvo main dealer in that time - I'm fortunate in having an independent Volvo specialist closeby and they've been fantastic, very reasonable and they go out of their way to be helpful, including maintaining a healthy stash of good salvaged parts to avoid silly prices.

I had to take it to the dealer as I needed the Volvo diagnostic codes - they have a bespoke extension (like many manufacturers) to the standard odb2 codes for deeper diagnosis of engine issues... and my engine keeps going into limp mode... (Queue DtB...) A standard odb2 reader can't get the Volvo specific stuff. You can buy an old windows 7 version of the volvo diagnostics on eBay but unless you're doing it regularly it's just not worth it - take it to a dealer and pay the 50 quid or whatever and let them tell you exactly what's wrong, then go to the local place and get it done at half the cost.

Yes, I've had a couple of occasions when the Volvo (not me DtB) has gone into limp mode - both occasions were quickly resolved with an application of this stuff;

I've booked a weeks holiday in August, we are staying in the old Telephone exchange in Market Boswell. It's next door to the new telephone exchange so the Broadband should be good.

I've just ordered an OS map of the area but, if anyone is familiar with that part of the world tips on attractions worth visiting would be welcome. :)

When I had my S60 D5 the only time it needed fault codes checking was one winter. I found an AA man lurking in Sainsburys car park and it was a fuel feed (diesel) fault. Turns out is was a bit of water in the fuel filter freezing.

Unscrewing the filter and draining it cured the problem till I got a replacement. :D

I think I got lost near there once... south of Ashby de la Louche!

Pretty enough countryside, a railway? Dunno.
