Nothing In Particular
#13201 Re: Nothing In Particular
On Sunday I headed out for a ride into very lumpy terrain south of Wiveliscombe. Anyway, riding up a narrow wooded lane I came across the piers of an old railway viaduct at Venn Cross, near Waterrow - they're a Brunel addition to the landscape and used to carry the Taunton to Barnstaple line - they seem to be in remarkably sound condition. I find this sort of history in the landscape fascinating.
Not my picture, it's a lot more leafy there at the moment.
I found this on Youtube;

#13202 Perseids tonight...
New moon tonight - it sets at about 10:30 - and it just so happens that the Perseid peak is late tonight! Supposed to be a really good one this year (skies permitting)
After 23:00, give your eyes about 20 minutes of true darkness to acclimatise, then look around at about 60 degrees off the horizon.
There should be at least 2 a minute - in the early hours, the intensity should increase a bit.

Some of you might know there is a pond across the road from my abode.
Some years ago we had a resident water vole. Well, I've been seeing him again.
If I stand still and quiet by the edge I can sometimes see little ripples that give him (or her) away. A little while ago I got several close (6 ft) looks at him as he came out of the water for a few seconds.
Magic, I feel privileged to have seen him at work.

#13206 Pipe
Yikes !
On a different subject. Those of you who are into plumbing and household stuff -
Is there any standard plastic pipe size that has near to 57mm internal diameter, and any fittings, such as a 90° bend, for such a thing ?
I know it's a fair bit bigger than the typical kitchen waste pipe.
Application, a loudspeaker port, want something cheap to do a first trial.

Hmmm... thanks Steve.
Good price. Not sure, we are going to try the ported box as recommended, plus a TL of some sort. I think the PR option is a mixed bag vs. ported - less port noise but a faster LF roll-off. At this stage I think we do the simpler, cheaper option. Well spotted, though .

I always thought PR’s were superior to BR if done properly, having twice the cone area of the drivers... Moot point as two have sold. I thought It’s the cost that deters people/manufacturers from using them.

Actually there is another PR advantage to over port tube, Lars Risbo was talking about it on a thread somewhere, the long port tube in the SPK5 example has its own pipe modes higher up ; he was talking about ways of using a blind stub somewhere along the port tube to kill it (!) . You wouldn't get that with a PR. However, I don't want to ask Jon to spend any more right now ( I think we've spent £1200 ! ) before we try out one of the options and do some listening.

Last night I added another thing to my list of culinary delights, the pea fritter.
I went for fish and chips in Market Bosworth, and saw said fritter on the menu, so decided to try it.
Normally, due to Jeans Yorkshire upbringing, we have mushy peas at home.
