Later he moved out of Newbury to a nearby village and when I there to pick up the Onix following the relay repair he had one of the Marantz turntables that could be adjusted for out of centre holes in records.
I was looking at it trying to guess how it worked when he just said "Out of your price range boy", in a friendly way.
I was 35, but he was not wrong.

Yesssss I think I 'member (70s though and I left in 72).. There was a record shop that lasted much longer round by the wharf but it too has gone. But waIt a minute... what's that!? A barber shop in Bartholomew Street that has a record shop in the back - groovy man.

Newbury was such a safe place to grow up in. No '...tracks across my back.... ' anyone get that reference!!?

As I was strolling down memory lane I realised that there is nobody left in Newbury who I know..... cripes. Still looks jolly prosperous and happy in the sunshine.

I had a letter in the post last week from a local (Haverhill) Jehovah Witness group, asking if I needed any help.

Seems they find visiting people a problem whilst Covid is about.

I wish them no ill, and even when they have made personal visits (pre Covid) we always parted on good terms.
