Just got given this set of 6 electronics training books from 1955... immaculate condition.
They're derived from the USA NEETS courses and re-written for the Commonwealth countries & REME
Great fun and an interesting read!

Did anyone else see that program about police corruption in Soho in the 1970's, last night ?
God it was a scream. You'd struggle to make it up.

Old news... so many novels have been written, films and TV series made. Remarkable, dark, corrupt, and real. You couldn't make it up, yet it happened.
I loved living in London from 1970 through most of the 90s. Dreadful place but definitely 'happening ' . Brixton riots, I was there. Loads of wonderful musicians and discovery of what, where and why my family were there for many years ago.
And now I'm not. Love it but miss it lots.... post covid? Well Whitechapel has changed so much. Move on?

I was living in Brixton when the riots happened. "Interesting times", as a certain oriental culture would say.
Loved Brixton. One of the best markets around. Never had any trouble with other residents.

Living in and teaching in Stockwell, behind that Jazz pub....can't remember name but I was there most nights. One of my colleagues ( maths teacher) was arrested and literally thrown in the back of s police van (Special Patrol Group) in front of the kids going home. The SPG were more or less responsible for the riots. The daily provocation made everyone hate them.

It was the Plough. I was in the top of Beckett House behind.

The SPG were complete bastards, however the causes of the riots were complex.
I was living on Chaucer Road at the opposite end from Railton Road.

Not quite no, but she lived in Chaucer Road during the riots.

On a different note, only the Italians could turn a brake pedal into a work of art:

The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

In 1983 to 1988 I was in Denmark Road, just off Coldharbour Lane. Then 1990 to 1994 working for Lamberf Carrncil.andrew Ivimey wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 8:06 pm Not quite no, but she lived in Chaucer Road during the riots.

Ohhh. I know Denmark Road & Coldharbour Lane well. After Brixton, moved to Denmark Hill where my stepdad had a place he was doing up and splitting into flats. Spent a good few months literally living in a building site. Learnt some useful skills.
...but I don't remember a Julia.
I was also doing some work at the royal Marsden. Always struck me as a good combination; a Yin & Yang... Jobbing labourer and nuclear physics engineer...
I confess I went to school very near there...
