I'm feeling pretty upset and struggling to sleep - we said goodbye to my great friend Bubble this evening. She's been my constant companion during home working over the last 18mths or so, gate-crashing Teams meetings and sleeping next to my desk most days. This afternoon she found a corner to curl up and sleep and didn't wake up - she was only 11. Silly, but the tears just flowed when I found her.

Not silly at all, Ray. You lost a loved family member and it hurts. My sympathies.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Certainly not silly. As Shane says above. Whether it’s ‘only an animal’ or not you have still lost a much loved family member and it hurts. My condolences.

Thank you guys. I've been for a long walk this morning, I just needed to get some space and be alone with my thoughts - still found myself looking for her when I got back though but that'll dissipate with time.

I had another good blub at the vet first thing this morning when I took her up to be cremated - I even started one of the nurses off. The vet staff were brilliant, very empathetic and dignified.

Ah, that's so sad, Ray. All the best for getting over it.

Thoughts please, ladies & gentlemen !
As I received not a lot of helpful comments, I decided to get off my backside and solve this by throwing technology at the problem.

I injected a 100mV 25MHz AM modulated signal (400Hz) into one end of the wire and then used my trusty little Sony ICF-SW1 to wander round the garden until I found a place where the signal went...
