Does anyone have spare, or know where I can obtain, some short lengths of aluminium angle?

I need to mount some old-fashioned TO-3 style transistors onto a large heatsink (they're not actually TO-3 transistors but the larger Tokin SIT types - 2SK180) - I need two pieces about 100mm long with a profile of 50mm x 50mm x 5mm.

It's easy to obtain on-line but I don't really want 2.5metres of it and I've not found anything suitable on ebay.

2.5 metres at your local homepage sort of store. Take a hacksaw and cut it , having first bought it, there. Surely!

Hi Ray
M-Machine Engineering Metals have 50 x 50 x 6 at £6.30 per 300mm plus £5.40 p&p
http://www.m-machine-metals.co.uk/

Just noticed that they reserve the right to have a minimum order charge of £9 for metal.
Perhaps they have something else you need.

I visit a local friendly non ferrous scrap dealer who lets me have a rummage through his bins for this sort of thing. A couple of quid in their tea kitty usually covers payment.

Finally have my teeth sorted. Crown fitted and a filling done. It’s been a royal PIA and an expensive one at that. My wife gets her root canal done tomorrow but being special she is having to see a specialist in root canal work due to complications!

I've nothing that long in my pile of alloy.

How about imperial size - 2" X 2" x 1/4" @ £7.47 all in ? (for a 200mm length)

PS they might even do 2 X 100mm for a similar price if you ask.

Essex fire brigade are doing a smoke alarm campaign in our village today. The man who came to see us was filling in his form and he put my age down as under 65. What a compliment. :D

Jean and I have had four deaths to cope with this last fortnight. Jean found one client dead when she made her morning call, and last night her best friends husband died, but it was not unexpected. And within two days two members of our local bowls club died.

One of the hazards of aging, when people of your own age (or younger) are meeting Mr G Reaper. :(

Hmmmmm, I'm on a journey down to Reading to see Dad who is embarking on an end of life situation. Why the Doctor couldn't just say he's dieing is beyond me. My step mother was one of the first who died January last, of pulmonary fibrosis and yes.... you've guessed it.

Soon to be an orphan then I appreciate the nearness of grim reaping; my turn next I suppose.

Onwards!

Thanks for the pointer Richard - what a great company, so friendly and helpful. I ordered six 100mm cut lengths of 50mm x 50mm x 6mm angle today for the princely sum of £18 including VAT and delivery.

I'll add a reference to the suppliers section as I'm sure others may find they can help with raw materials for machining parts and the like.

What a strange day.....instead of my poor old dad messing about with metal and dies ( I'd like to blame typo or the damnable spell check on my phone or indeed the irregular and anarchic nature of the mongrel English language as it is written but I think that I just spelled it wrong and this leads to confusion.) My old dad is very very poorly indeed. The nurse was not forthcoming but I get the Doctor tomorrow.

What I don't want is euphemisms. He has cheated the grim reaper a couple of times and far outlived anybody else in clan Ivimey - he's had an exceptional life and I love him.

His room in the nursing home is neat; the right photos of all the extended family including the Polish folk and his beloved wife (step mother) Menorah and a bust of Karl Marx but I think and feel that it is the end. The only peeps I've seen looking worse have died before I could get back to them with a new hearing aid(s), earmould or other assistive listening device.

I'm drinking a bottle of cotes du beaune for him ( for me!!!)
