#1 Idler wheel profile

Post by jane »

I recently obtained a new idler wheel for my 401 as the current version had gone shiny and showed a slow start up.
The new idler wheel is not flat(square) on the pulley contact area.
Surely the idler should be square with the total height of 10 mm making contact with the pulley?

Hi Jane,

Sorry, I've read your post several times and I can't get to grips with what your issue is. Please can you explain better and maybe some of us 401 users here may be able to help.

Best wishes,

Greg

Hi-i took off my 401 platter to look at the idler wheel, and the edge which contacts the motor shaft and platter rim seems to be a square edge and approx 5mm wide.

1. Perfect Sound in the UK; they claim the contact area should be round

2. No fitting instructions

The advert picture does not show the edge profile,is it noticeably curved on the edge ?

Of the available 5 mm, only about 1 mm makes contact on my new one.

"The Original idler wheels had a rounded profile, most of the flat idlers you see are normally flat from use! The new idler will wear and eventually go flat also". This is the comment I received from Steve Wareham at Perfect Sound.
