The 2.2uf caps finally came yesterday, the first pair got lost in the post.

Just fitted them, and now having a listen. More later. :)

I've found the 2.2uf to be OK, but I noticed the Alpair 12P was a tad fierce this morning.

I tried a 1R padding resistor, but that was too much, so trying an R47 now, seems better. :)

Gives the 18" driver a slight boost as well, I'll let it play for a while and see how it pans out.

Hi Phil
I'm thinking of trying some Alpair 12Ps on an OB project. How are you getting on with yours - any updates? Still enjoying them?
Cheers

Hi Max, nice to see you "active" again.

Yes, I'm pleased with the Alpairs, I followed the info on Simons blog when re-doing the crossovers.

Just got home from my Tuesday walk. I fired up the system and put on a Nat King Cole CD, it's never sounded so good. :D

High praise indeed. If you like them that much I'll have to follow your lead and give them a go :)

Thanks Simon, some very useful stuff there. :) I had actually found your blog a while ago but then I'd forgotten. In fact I think your blog was one of the factors that made me consider the Alpairs. Any updates since that post? Are you still running the Alpairs?

They're in the MLTLs in the lounge now Max as they're much smaller than the Fostex 208 horns (more domestically acceptable!). Only taken me 3.5 years or so from starting... There are a number of blogs about the cab construction. I tend to measure my audio progress in ice ages.

The plan has always been to put the Fostex 208s in the Quasars upstairs in the play room. On the face of it I suspect the 208s are maybe a little more detailed than the 12Ps but I haven't compared them properly. I am a little nervous though as Mark struggled to get the 208s to work in OB in his "Something stirs..." epic. There's something very "right" about the 12Ps though.

Yes domestic acceptability is an issue here too.
I'm hoping that I can sell Mrs N on some OBs but they will need to look nice

I've been getting the baffles ready for Owston.

There were 6 clip leads per speaker connecting things up, so I've done a proper job and soldered everything together.

I'm not 100% sure the balance between the drivers is quite right, but It'll have to do for now as I've not got a lot of listening time this week.

I'm playing some piano music at the moment and it sounds good, but it's female vocal I'm a bit worried about.

I know you lot will be honest enough to tell me if the balance is wrong.

The tonal balance might be fine.

It could just be your music choice....

Thanks Dave, I hoped you would be "on form" at Owston, wouldn't be quite the same if you weren't.
