#1 A tonearm that ignores the rules

I saw this article about a radically different tonearm design, which seems to have great reviews. I was looking for info on ferrofluid bearings for work when I came across it. I cannot believe that the 7” version sounds the best. http://v2.stereotimes.com/post/viv-lab-rigid-tonearm/ I like the concept, not sure about ignoring offset though.

Interesting bearing on it, conical stylus would work nicely in it, it doesnt care how it sits in the groove.

Very interesting - now I need to work through this and see how it can be used...

A video of the bearing in action on this page https://ds-exports.biz/rigid-float-tone-arm/ The oil is going to be the hard bit to replicate. I was looking at magnetic oil for its heat wicking capability, as we are having to consider journal bearings due to the loads we are designing to.

I would image similar to the well tempered arm floating golf ball, except you can use magnets to control the magnetic oil to stay where you want it.

Apparently we all will have magnetic oil bearings at home as used in hard drives to give the the long service required from the bearings.

Confused.. don’t see the relevance- or is it that it uses a hard drive bearing?
