why not use a simple triode rather than what I take to be SRPP (with gain?) ?

If, dear Philip, I lampizate the Marantz, I'm going to use a pair of 2A3s - just to spite you!

Ah, but you are clever enough to make it work.andrew Ivimey wrote:If, dear Philip, I lampizate the Marantz, I'm going to use a pair of 2A3s - just to spite you!
When in doubt, copy something that's been proven to work. In the main I'm not an innovator.

Oh thats erm..............perfect. Made for the job!I have called this the Excell Lampy mod, what do you think ?
For me its the best compromise.andrew Ivimey wrote:why not use a simple triode rather than what I take to be SRPP (with gain?) ?
If you can design and develop your own tube stages then thats fine.
The Lampizator circuits all worked but possibly need some informed tweaking.
But the "Anode Follower" version left me with the impression that something wasn't right. I couldn't relax while listening to it..
Cathode follower had impressive clarity with tinkly things sounding very tinkly and and bass notes quite easy to follow, albeit a little lightweight.
CF would no doubt sound wonderful, with a bit of fettling, if you don't need the gain.
I do need the gain because mine doubles as a preamp.
SRPP has a more balanced, easy to live with presentation. Oh yes, and its got loads of balls. I would say its the best bet of the three published circuits.
None of this matters to Phil anyway, because he's doing the Richard version.
Much to learn there is.
