Ed brought these to my attention a short while ago.
Reading Exicon's blurb one might get the impression these were the bees knees of audio amplification devices, but in reality, are they special ?

Latfets are the greatest thing since sliced bread for audio amplification IMO. YMMV.

Hi Steve, thanks for your comment. Do you have any empirical information on the amplifier (or amplifiers) you have experience of that uses Lat-fets ?

I read up on those at diy audio, very much mixed views, but not so much comment on how they sound.
Would be interesting to try

The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

Last century I did some design and building of latfet poweramps on a small scale. In a properly implemented design (mechanically and electrically) they are extremely robust and very reliable IME.

Ok, but I think Phil's question was do they sound any better?
And my question would be in what way are they more robust and reliable than say Siliconix IRFP250?

Yes, it was really a "sound quality" question.
What SteveH has said may well be true, but what I wanted was empirical observations regarding an actual amplifier in use.

So, nothing to make me want to rush out and play with them.

I can't see a graph of capacitance vs. current, so it's hard to compare them against the ones Nick uses.
