Thought I might give one of these a try for everyday use.
I've already got a decent 24v PSU to try so not very expensive.

I've just bought a tpa6120 headphone amp....I'll let you know how it fares. The general concensus on other forums is that the new TI amps are a large improvement on the old T amps.....we'll see

Was it class D that the devalian power amp element run at? I know it sis a whole lot of digital stuff first but at the end of all that there has to be a power amp.

If so, then I can't wait to hear this class D stuff. Go for it I would say.

The Devialet describes their output stage as Hybrid analogue and class D. How that works is a mystery. Presumably they must use a conventional analogue transistor output stage for the low current output and then augment it with some class D welly. Sounds like clever stuff.

Paul, I use a couple of Temple Audio Bantam Golds to drive the OB's actively. Sounds pretty good to me.

It's an ADAU1592 Analogue Devices chip.

Just got home from a very pleasant long weekend in West Yorkshire, and the amp module was on the mat.

Something to fiddle with in the next few days.

So, got the wiring up (such as it is) finished this morning.

Connected it up in the main system, switched it on, and WOW.

Initial impression is BASS. Now listening to some Siri, and it sounds a lot better than ever I remember my old T amp.

Just got to let it run in for a couple of hours and see if it changes.

The reason I chose this chip was that it uses an (up to) 24v supply and I wanted to use one of the two I was going to use on GK-71 heaters.

OK, after a few hours of playing various music I must say I really do like this little chip amp.

True it has got a very low noise PSU, and it is being fed by my Audionote clone (ish) valve pre, but nevertheless, for the price, it's an absolute bargain. :D

I'm even thinking of getting another one and trying bi-amping on the baffles, perhaps even going to an active crossover.

What type of crossover do you use Ali ?

I'd really love a 2nd opinion on this. :)

I'd read somewhere that operating these amps at less voltage made them sound better.

So I've dug out my 12v @ 1.5A bench power supply and connected it up in place of the 24v supply used up till now.

To my ears (initial impressions) 12v sounds little different, but I wound the voltage down and the amp keeps going down to 4 and a bit volts.

Perhaps at 12v it is just a gnats gentlemans sausage less "bright", but I still need an expert with good ears to listen and see what they think.

Any one else got £13 to waste to try one ?

I use this one Phil-

http://www.minidsp.com/products/minidsp ... inidsp-2x4

You can get it even cheaper if you buy it without the box. You need to buy the software and use your pc to set it up, but it's cheap enough. You can also buy a calibrated measuring mike and download some free software to measure your speakers if you're so inclined. Needs a power supply too, but that won't be a problem. I run mine from a battery, which I also use to run the chip amp. Try a battery on the amp Phil, made a good improvement over the power supply I was using before.
